Seriously....Give yourself a break and get out in nature. Otherwise, our fast-paced world will eat you alive if you let it. For the sake of all the items listed above, get lost. Find somewhere you can go and just BE STILL. Stop - Listen - Breathe. This poem has saved my sanity more than once. LOST Stand still. The trees ahead and bushes beside you Are not lost. Wherever you are is called Here, And you must treat it as a powerful stranger Must ask permission to know it and be known. The forest breathes. Listen. It answers I have made this a place around you If you leave it, you may come back again, saying Here. No two trees are the same to Raven No two branches are the same to Wren If what a tree or a bush does is lost on you, You are surely lost. Stand still. The forest knows Where you are. You must let it find you. Lost: David Wagoner My challenge to you is to find a solitary spot in a wooded spot and just be. Connect to the world that is void of the stressors that all too often ensnare us. Where is your place to get lost? Tell me about it!
Laura,
Excellent post and reminder! Just being able to open up the windows and let the fresh air flow through the house is grounding for me.
But, the ultimate nature place for me is the ocean -- ideally combined with cool (60s/70s) weather. I can walk and think for hours, feeling the waves lapping up against my feet/ankles and just letting the patterns and sensations do an etch a sketch on my brain and heart...so I can be open to hearing the whispers I usually miss.
How about you -- do you have a special place to get lost?

Drew,
Great visual on the ocean scene. I am a sucker for the ocean as well. The rhythmic lapping of the water as it reaches the shore is hypnotic.
A "place" to get lost - I cannot possibly limit myself to one place when we are given so much beauty in nature. Each spot which we take solice in gives us something we need. I think I would have to do a "Top 10" list (with probably many ties in the list to get them all in). It would absolutely include the ocean, mountains, deserts, waterfalls, hidden away creeks, nature trails, and my own back yard.
Obviously I have trouble limiting myself. Anyone else out there want to discuss your place to be lost and "be known"?

People should be out on the wisdom of excluded, the moral should be innocent, the body should be clean
